Food for Thought Tuesday - 22 Jun 2010

"Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed. The fact is that most putts don’t drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just like people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, and most jobs are more often dull than otherwise.
.
Life is just like an old time rail journey ... delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride."
.
~ Gordon B. Hinckley

I'm not sure I agree with this guy. Seems like a very dismal view of life.

Well, ain't that the truth! I must say, having often been disillusioned by life and it's occupants, I have to agree with him on most points.

Hi Sandy! It's always nice to have a visit from you. Thanks for coming over to the Swamp.

Very well put. Indeed, life is a journey not a destination and we should thank God for letting us take the ride.

As for his view on marriages and jobs , Gordon B. Hinckley is of course right.

Nice "food for thought" - if we focus on all those disappointments in the first part of the quote, we may forget to be thankful for the ride. But if we focus on all those small things that give us joy - not grand vistas and excitement, but a single flower in bloom or the hug of a child - it's hard not to be thankful and joyful!

There is indeed truth in those words-the trick is to surround yourself with elements to add flavor to the otherwise boring and trying times: family, friends, humor, forgiveness, interests, faith, and a dash of whimsy...
